You’ve made the decision to replace your missing teeth in the most effective manner possible: with dental implants. Now that the time is drawing near for your surgical procedure, you’re getting a little nervous. While it’s perfectly normal, there are ways to overcome your anxiety. Here are some important tips to help you prepare to receive dental implants in McKinney.

Ask Questions

Young children are known for asking an unending number of questions. Because they are so early in their life journey, they are curious and in need of reassurance that everything is okay. When it comes to learning about the dental implant process, you should take the same approach – asking as many questions as you need to feel comfortable about moving forward.

No question is too small or insignificant. The more you know, the better prepared you can be. Thus, your dentist will gladly provide the explanations you need.

Plan Ahead

The dentist and staff will provide full details about what you need to do before your surgery, depending on the specifics of your protocol. For example, if you’ll be receiving oral sedation to calm your nerves, you’ll need to have a driver on-hand, as it can take several hours for the effects to wear off.

After the surgery is completed and you’re back home resting, you’ll need some help managing your normal activities for a couple of days. It would be in your best interest to have a partner, friend or family member on standby. Therefore, you won’t have to scramble to find some assistance at the last minute.

Follow Your Pre-Op Instructions

The dentist will provide a list of specific instructions for you to follow before arriving for surgery. It’s important that you adhere to ensure that you have a successful and comfortable experience.

Here are some of the more typical instructions you may be given:

  • Eat a filling breakfast.
  • Rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash.
  • Take any antibiotics you were prescribed to prepare for your appointment.
  • Clear the rest of your schedule for the remainder of the day so that you can relax and recover.

By adhering to the guidelines provided by your dentist in McKinney, you can recover faster and more effectively after the surgery is completed. While you can expect some mild discomfort, you can manage by taking an over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen (Advil, Aleve or Motrin), eating soft foods (soups, smoothies, vegetables, etc.) and relaxing.

With the right planning and execution, you’ll soon be smiling from ear-to-ear, eating the foods you love and enjoying life to the fullest!
